Once you have your bat get someone to throw a ball at you. Try and hit the ball. Don't worry if you miss but try and get the hang of hitting the ball and try get a few power shots for 4's and 6's. If you can you shall be a batsman (or batswoman)(probably).
Once you get the hang of smacking the ball get ready for something really important. Defending. Defending the ball is good but don't defend to much in an overs match. It's OK in test matches though. In an overs match you have a certain amount of bowls to make a certain score. In 50 overs or 50-50 you have 300 bowls to make about 250 at average. In 20 overs or T-20 the score is about 150 at average. In test match you have infinity bowls to make score. So that's why.
After you learn that try get to make singles, doubles and mabye even triples. How do you do this? Just try hit the ball on the ground as far as you can and then, SPRINT. When you make it to the other side look for the ball. If it's far enough take another run otherwise don't. You just will take the risk of getting out.
